Harry Kane can still very much imagine a long-term future at FC Bayern. But although both sides would like to extend his contract in principle, the contract poker is becoming an increasingly complicated affair, with Jan-Christian Dreesen apparently playing a central role

FC Bayern would like to extend Harry Kane’s contract as soon as possible – ideally before the start of the World Cup – but the Englishman made it clear after the DFB Cup final that he wants to take his time with a decision

„Of course, now is not the time to talk. We are very relaxed about the situation. We have said that we want to play the season first – and preferably the World Cup as well. Both sides are very happy with each other,“ explained Kane

Kane knows his market value

The fact that Bayern are keen to extend Kane’s contract is hardly surprising given his numbers. The 32-year-old scored 61 goals in 51 competitive games last season and led Munich to the double with a hat-trick in the cup final against Stuttgart

Uli Hoeneß recently even publicly praised him as the „best transfer we have ever made“, a statement that naturally puts Kane in a strong negotiating position

„At this point in my career, I want to get the most out of a contract. This will be one of the last contracts I sign as a player,“ the striker said openly

It is therefore also clear that the poker game will be anything but easy for FC Bayern

Dreesen is considered the most important contact

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen could now play a decisive role. The board boss is apparently seen internally as the absolute key in the Kane poker

Dreesen already played a leading role in the transfer in the summer of 2023 and managed to successfully moderate the complicated talks with Tottenham Hotspur

Particularly important: according to SPORT1, Dreesen continues to enjoy great trust in the player’s environment – especially from Kane’s father and brother, who have been instrumental in his career

Running time remains a big issue

In addition to the salary, the duration of the contract is likely to be the main sticking point. While FC Bayern apparently prefer an extension until 2029, Kane is said to be pushing internally for a contract until 2030

This is precisely why Dreesen’s role is becoming increasingly important: the Bayern boss must convince the Kane camp that a solution that makes economic sense for the club can also remain attractive in sporting terms

One thing is certain: Munich still have a good chance of an extension, but the contract poker with Harry Kane will definitely not be a sure-fire success.
