Three Bayern pros are battling it out this week to reach the World Cup final. For Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Dayot Upamecano, it’s not just about the dream of a World Cup title—they also have the chance to extend an extraordinary record streak for FC Bayern.
The 2026 World Cup is entering the home stretch. With England and France, there are still two nations with Bayern players in the semifinals.
Harry Kane and the Three Lions face Argentina, while Dayot Upamecano and Michael Olise will battle Spain with France for the second spot in the final.
For FC Bayern, in addition to the sporting success of its national team players, a very special streak is also at stake.
Since the 1982 World Cup in Spain, at least one current Bayern Munich player has been on the field in every World Cup final.
It’s an impressive streak that’s unmatched anywhere in the world. For it to continue into 2026, at least one of the remaining Bayern pros must reach the final. Given the two semifinal matchups, that’s by no means guaranteed, but the odds are certainly in their favor.
France, in particular, is slightly favored against Spain, while England faces a difficult task against defending champion Argentina.

In the most recent final in 2022, Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman were part of the French squad. Four years earlier, Corentin Tolisso won the World Cup with France.
The 2014 final remains particularly unforgettable, as seven Bayern pros won the World Cup title with Germany. Philipp Lahm, Manuel Neuer, Jérôme Boateng, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller, Mario Götze, and Toni Kroos were key figures in that triumph in Brazil.
In 2010, too, FC Bayern was prominently represented by Mark van Bommel, Arjen Robben, and Edson Braafheid. In 2006, Willy Sagnol reached the final with France.
In the 2002 World Cup final for Germany, Oliver Kahn, Thomas Linke, and Jens Jeremies were part of the squad. Before that, the list included Bixente Lizarazu (1998), Jorginho (1994), Klaus Augenthaler, Stefan Reuter, and Jürgen Kohler (1990), as well as Lothar Matthäus, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and Paul Breitner (1986 and 1982, respectively) continued the long list.
Now it’s up to Harry Kane and the French duo Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano to carry on this extraordinary tradition.
Should at least one of the three Bayern pros make it to the final, FC Bayern would extend its unique streak to twelve consecutive World Cups.
For the record-holding champions, this would be further proof of the enormous influence their players have on the biggest stage in world soccer—regardless of which national team ultimately lifts the World Cup trophy.
