Former Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow looks set to end a 22-year wait by swapping Elland Road for Old Trafford this summer.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 35-year-old is reportedly on the verge of joining Manchester United as a free agent after his Leeds contract expired at the end of last month.

Darlow had an extension offer from Leeds but has seemingly opted for a fresh challenge. If completed, the move would make him only the seventh player to go from Leeds to Manchester United across the Pennines.

The last to do so was Alan Smith, and his £seven million switch proved hugely controversial given he was a boyhood Whites fan.

The most recent transfer the other way saw Daniel James leave Manchester for Leeds in a £25 million deal. Direct switches remain rare, although both clubs have recruited notable players from the other.

In total, 17 players have moved between the clubs.
