Leeds United wingers Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto could miss this weekend’s trip to Wolves as they are “struggling” with injuries.

James has played a part in all four of the Whites’ Premier League outings so far, but was substituted off the pitch with a calf injury towards the end of last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham.

Gnonto has also been dealing with a calf issue this week, causing him to miss some training sessions. Both players face a race against time to be fit for the game at Molineux this Saturday.

Leeds United duo James and Gnonto doubts to face Wolves

“We have a few doubts for this game,” Leeds manager Daniel Farke told his pre-match press conference on Thursday. “Dan James is a major doubt and is still struggling a bit.

“Also, Willy Gnonto is a doubt, struggling with some calf problems. He missed a few training sessions so there will be late calls with both of them but I have to say they are major doubts.

“Apart from that, everyone is in a good place. He (Lucas Perri) is also out for this game and in the middle of next week, we will have a clearer picture on how long he will be out for.”

The absence of the two attackers would be a huge blow to Leeds, particularly as they have struggled in attack so far this season. The Yorkshire outfit have scored just one goal, which in their opening weekend win over Everton. They have also put the ball in their own net as many times as they have in the opposition’s following Gabriel Gudmundsson’s own goal to gift Fulham victory last Saturday.

Farke, however, is not concerned about their lack of goals, choosing instead to praise his team’s solidity at the back.

“We are a newly promoted and it is obviously normal that we won’t take the league by storm,” he said. “First step is to be rock solid at the back and be difficult to beat, and that’s what we are.

“Quite often, results dominate the narrative, but we have played a very good last away to Fulham. Normally, if this unbelievable, unlucky own goal doesn’t happen, then the focus would have been on the third clean sheet and already at five points and being difficult to beat, then they wouldn’t speak much about our offence.

“I am pretty happy that we are so rock solid in most of the periods. This is always the key as a newly promoted side to give you a chance of survival.”
