Kiel and Münster play out uneventful stalemate

Despite the stakes, neither side managed to find any attacking rhythm, with both defences enjoying what was, at times, a surprisingly comfortable afternoon. Clear-cut chances were at a premium throughout, as the contest drifted into a largely forgettable stalemate.

Kiel began the brighter of the two, looking to build on their victory in Bochum last time out. The hosts pressed high and attempted to impose themselves early on, but struggled to translate their territorial dominance into meaningful opportunities.

It took Münster nearly half an hour to grow into the game, but when they did, they fashioned the best opening of the first half. Lars Lokotsch reacted quickest to a loose ball following a missed attempt from Etienne Amenyido, only to guide his header over the bar. It proved to be the closest either side came before the break, with neither team registering a shot on target in a tepid first half.

The pattern continued after the restart, with Kiel again seeing more of the ball but lacking the cutting edge required to trouble the Münster backline. The visitors, meanwhile, remained organised and disciplined, ensuring chances remained few and far between in a cagey second half.

The game’s only shot on target arrived with 15 minutes remaining, as Amenyido finally tested Timon Weiner, but the Kiel goalkeeper reacted well to deny him with his feet. It was a rare moment of action in an otherwise lifeless encounter.

In the end, a point apiece does little to aid either side’s survival hopes. Kiel remain in 16th place, while Münster stay rooted to the foot of the table, though they at least bring an end to a run of three consecutive defeats.
