Minjae Kim has been on the verge of leaving FC Bayern on several occasions – but Vincent Kompany has so far put the brakes on. The situation could now change in the summer
The future of Minjae Kim at FC Bayern remains an exciting topic. The central defender was a possible candidate to leave both last summer and in the winter – but a move ultimately never materialized
According to transfer insiders Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, this was mainly down to Vincent Kompany, as the Bayern coach deliberately wanted to keep his squad together and was against selling the South Korean
According to the report, however, the situation could change for the upcoming transfer window, meaning that it is not out of the question that Munich will be willing to talk in the summer and open the door to a move again
In sporting terms, Kim is currently facing a difficult starting position. Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano are set in central defense, meaning the 29-year-old will have to fight for playing time
This constellation has not gone unnoticed internationally, with clubs from Italy in particular reportedly keeping a close eye on Kim’s situation and examining the possibility of signing him
One factor also plays an important role here: the salary. Kim earns above-average wages at FC Bayern, which is also due to the fact that the club was able to sign him for a comparatively low price in 2023 and in return has increased his salary

FC Bayern are therefore faced with an important trade-off in the summer: on the one hand, Kompany wanted to keep the defender at all costs, while on the other, the sporting situation could now favor a change
One thing is certain: the Kim issue remains open – and could pick up speed again in the coming transfer phase.
