Leeds United reached the FA Cup semi-finals after a 4-2 penalty shootout win at West Ham, following a 2-2 draw in an all-time quarter-final classic. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk described it as arguably one of the competition’s greatest games.
Leeds led through Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin before 11 minutes were added. Matheus Fernandes and Axel Disasi levelled, extra-time efforts by Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe were ruled offside.
In the shootout, Joel Piroe and Jarrod Bowen missed first. Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson, Willy Gnonto and Pascal Struijk scored, Pablo failed for West Ham to clinch 4-2. Keeper Perri excelled, including two saves in the shootout.
Fringe contributions told, with Tanaka impressive and Gnonto lively off the bench. Yet Leeds’ late fragility persists, conceding twice inside seven of the 11 added minutes. They have now shipped 11 goals after 90 this season, more than any other Premier League team across all competitions.
The win came at a cost as Anton Stach and Joe Rodon suffered ankle injuries and were withdrawn. Farke said Rodon will be assessed and noted there is time before the next game. He felt Stach should have had a penalty, described a probable ligament issue, and the midfielder was later seen on crutches with a protective boot.
