Real Madrid have enjoyed a perfect start to the 2025/26 La Liga season under Xabi Alonso’s leadership.
Los Blancos have won all four of their opening games of the new league campaign with a two point lead over arch foes Barcelona in the rankings.
Alonso’s struggles in the FIFA Club World Cup have been left behind, and his start to domestic action has caught the eye, with Kylian Mbappe to the the fore.
The France international has netted four league goals so far, on the back of winning the Pichichi/Golden Boot trophy last season, and his next target is the UEFA Champions League.
Luis Enrique led Mbappe’s PSG to a first-ever UCL crown in 2025/26, in the first season since his exit, and that will be on the Real Madrid No.9’s mind.

“I scored quite a few goals against Marseille in the past. It’s great to meet French teams again. Plus, we’re playing at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, so it’ll be a good game,” as per quotes from Mundo Deportivo.
“They haven’t played in the Champions League for a while (three seasons). I hope it brings back good memories.”
Mbappe managed nine goals in 13 Ligue 1 game against Marseille as a PSG player and his comments will likely trigger a reaction from Roberto De Zerbi’s team.
Real Madrid have faced Marseille four times before split across the Champions League group stages in 2003/04 and 2009/10 with four victories.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero in the latter two games, with four goals scored for Los Blancos, and Mbappe will be looking to produce something special as Alonso starts his European tenure in the Spanish capital.
