La Liga rivals win out as Barcelona & Villarreal’s USA clash cancelled | OneFootball

A major update on the ongoing saga surrounding the upcoming La Liga meeting between Barcelona and Villarreal has on Tuesday evening been revealed.

This comes amid widespread confirmation that the fixture will not be played in the USA.

The subject of the Miami date between Barca and Villarreal, pencilled in for December, of course dominated the headlines across Spain once more this past weekend.

As much came as the rest of La Liga’s clubs came together in a joint protest against the plans.

Specifically, the clubs involved refused to play out the opening 15 seconds of their respective outings in Spain’s top-flight.

And as alluded to above, amid further pressure over the days since, definitive action has today been taken.

As confirmed by COPE, amongst others:

‘The match in Miami between Villarreal CF and FC Barcelona is canceled.’

The understanding is that the fixture – which had been scheduled as the first ever in La Liga to be played outside Spain – will now be contested at La Cerámica.
