Alessio Romagnoli’s proposed switch to Al-Sadd is in doubt again, raising the prospect of a contract termination with Lazio.
Al-Sadd pushed again this summer after a January deal collapsed just before the deadline, with Claudio Lotito sanctioning a €3 million sale. Il Messaggero reports that the move could now falter again.
Romagnoli was due in Doha at the start of July, yet a managerial change and the death of the former Emir of Qatar delayed his arrival. The Qatari league has also limited foreign players to five on the pitch, prompting Al-Sadd to reconsider.
The centre-back had already bid farewell in a video played during a large anti-Lotito protest earlier this month. Relations have reached a point of no return, and the former AC Milan captain is unlikely to be reinstated by Gennaro Gattuso.
He could be called to Formello to discuss ending his deal. Lazio would forgo a fee, but they would save about €5.5 million, the gross salary due for the final year of his contract.
