Lazio manager Gennaro Gattuso is willing to give Adrien Przyborek the chance to claim the vacant attacking-midfielder role.

Lazio Need an Attacking Midfielder

During his unveiling last Saturday, the Calabrian head coach insisted that the club’s priority on the market should be replacing Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli at the back, and signing a new striker. But if he intends to implement his favorite 4-2-3-1 formation, a No.10 should be required, as his squad lacks a genuine fit for the role.

In recent weeks, Lazio chased 20-year-old Jonathan Asp Jensen, but failed to close the deal with Bayern Munich, who ended up selling him to Deportivo La Coruña. Gattuso has been pushing for 22-year-old Dinamo Zagreb attacking midfielder Luka Stojkovic, but the Aquile are unlikely to afford him following his spectacular campaign.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the early signs suggest Gattuso is ready to entrust Przyborek with a prominent role, as he’s been testing the young Pole as an attacking midfielder in the early days of pre-season. Nevertheless, it will be up to the teenager to prove his worth and make the most of this golden opportunity.

Przyborek: Career Path & Favorite Role

Przyborek is a Pogon Szczecin youth product who became a key player for the club. After cementing himself as one of the most exciting young players in Poland, he joined Lazio on a €4.5 million deal in January, but only made one appearance with the senior squad last season, as Maurizio Sarri struggled to fit him into his 4-3-3 system.

On the contrary, Gattuso’s formation is almost tailor-made for the 19-year-old. So it remains to be seen if he will lock himself a starting role, or force the Lazio boss to convert another player into an attacking midfielder. A third (and perhaps more sensible) solution is to bring in a more experienced profile for this key role, but there are no candidates on the horizon.
