Lazio have confirmed Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach, several weeks after he was first seen at the Formello training ground. The club said in a statement that it has appointed him to lead the first team and expressed confidence his experience, professionalism and determination will support its sporting objectives.
The deal was seemingly agreed as far back as May 25. On June 3 the 48-year-old was seen at Formello for transfer talks with club directors and president Claudio Lotito. The formal announcement arrived this afternoon.
He is believed to have signed a two-year contract with the Aquile, succeeding Maurizio Sarri, who has taken a new role with Atalanta.
Gattuso was appointed Italy coach in June 2025, overseeing six wins and two defeats.
This is his first job since he resigned as Italy coach on April 3 after a World Cup qualifying play-offs defeat on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His managerial career began at Sion in 2013 and includes spells with Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Olympique Marseille and Hajduk Split.
