Lazio are reportedly planning to reinvigorate their full-back department this summer, while identifying Anton Gaaei as a potential solution.
The Biancocelesti currently have five options vying for the two full-back roles, which might be too many for a club that plays once a week amid the absence of European football. Moreover, all three right-back options (Adam Marusic, Manuel Lazzari and Elseid Hysaj) are above the age of 30, so one or two of them are expected to make way for a younger replacement.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the full-back revamp could begin with Gaaei, an Ajax player that the Aquile have been recently monitoring. The source claims that Lazio directors are studying a move for the 22-year-old. They should be able to launch an onslaught if they manage to free up a spot in this department.
The Danish right-back is a Viborg native who started his career at his hometown club. He climbed his way up the ranks to become a regular feature with the senior squad, before being poached by Ajax in the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee of €4.5 million.
This season, Gaaei established himself as a regular starter under the tutelage of Francesco Farioli, making 40 appearances in all competitions. The Dane showcased his attacking prowess by scoring three goals and providing his teammates with four assists in his 25 Eredivisie appearances. His contract with the Dutch giants is valid until June 2028, and his value is estimated at €10 million.
