Lazio have reportedly extended Oliver Provstgaard’s contract to 2031 with a significant pay rise, though nothing has been announced yet.

According to Il Messaggero, the parties have ‘secretly’ signed the extension, moving the expiry from June 2029 to 2031 and roughly doubling his salary to just over €one million a year.

Lazio paid €four million for the Danish centre-back in February 2025 after his emergence at Vejle BK. This season he became Maurizio Sarri’s first-choice back-up for Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila.

With Romagnoli on his way to Al-Sadd and Gila heavily linked with Napoli, Provstgaard has a chance to become a regular starter under Gennaro Gattuso. Lazio moved to secure him amid interest from European clubs.

The report said the hierarchy acted quickly to anticipate the market. The supervisory committee has imposed a net-zero transfer campaign from 1 July, meaning spending must be funded by sales and current salaries cannot be increased.

Even so, Provstgaard’s exact role next season remains to be seen, and replacements for Romagnoli and Gila will be required. Lazio have been linked with Diego Coppola, Fabio Chiarodia, Sergi Dominguez and Arnau Martinez.
