Lazio midfielder Nicolo Rovella may have played his last match of the campaign after fracturing his collarbone in Sardinia.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the 24-year-old’s recovery could take between 60 and 90 days, meaning he risks missing the rest of the season.

Saturday brought his first Serie A start in almost five months, but after a challenge from Cagliari right-back Ze Pedro he fell awkwardly and went off. Initial suggestions pointed to around six weeks out.

It has already been a difficult year for the Italian international. Ruled out in September by a groin problem, he tried to avoid surgery with alternative therapy, then underwent an operation in November after little progress.

Having spent months sidelined, his fitness was still short, and another lay-off could compound matters. Even if he is cleared before the final round, he might struggle to reach peak condition in time.
