Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri is widely expected to leave the Italian capital club this summer, as suitors line up for his services.
The 24-year-old is a Roma youth product who had his breakthrough at Hellas Verona, earning himself a move to Lazio in the summer of 2022. Due to his lack of playing time in his first season at the club, he spent two seasons on loan at Empoli and Parma, before returning to Formello last summer and getting reinstated in Maurizio Sarri’s squad, partially due to the transfer ban.
The Roman had his highs and lows this summer, sharing a starting role on the right wing with Gustav Isaksen. He ended the campaign with 35 appearances, four goals, and two assists. But with Gennaro Guttuso taking over, it is believed that the Dane will be the first choice on the right flank, with the versatile Tijjani Noslin as the alternative option, leaving Cancellieri as the odd man out.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Biancocelesti management has decided against negotiating a new contract with the Italian winger, whose deal will expire in June 2027. Instead, he is considered available on the market.
The source believes this could be an opportunity for Brentford to revive their interest in the player, having offered €15 million to acquire his services in January, but to no avail. With the winger entering the final year of his contract, Lazio’s asking price has likely dropped.
In addition to the Bees, Cancellieri has also attracted interest from Olympiacos, who will attempt to qualify for the Champions League this summer through the qualifiers. Moreover, the Lazio man has suitors in the Italian peninsula. The Roman newspaper names Torino and Fiorentina as potential destinations, while Parma may try to bring him back to the Ennio Tardini.
