Gustav Isaksen will become the fourth Lazio player to undergo groin surgery in less than a year, as the club prepares to make drastic changes in the medical department.

Lazio Winger Gustav Isaksen Will Undergo Groin Surgery

According to Il Messaggero, the Danish international isn’t planning to waste any time. He has decided to go under the knife in the coming days to fix the issue and try to make himself available at Gennaro Gattuso’s disposal next month. The 24-year-old endured a nightmarish pre-season last year due to mononucleosis, so he’ll be adamant about resolving this issue as swiftly as possible.

The Precedents

Interestingly, three of Isaksen’s teammates have already suffered similar injuries over the past 12 months. Mattia Zaccagni had surgery last summer, while Nicolo Rovella followed suit in November after failing to treat it through alternative therapy. Last week, it was Danilo Cataldi’s turn. The midfielder decided to fly to Barcelona for the operation.

In addition to the recurring groin issues, Lazio suffered more than 50 injuries throughout the season, leaving their former head coach, Maurizio Sarri, with a depleted squad more on several occasions. These hampering issues have put the entire medical department under scrutiny, and the club has decided to take action.

Lazio Changing Doctors & Medical Clinics

As the newspaper explains, the club’s doctor, Dr Italo Leo, is leaving the club. The 50-year-old had spent 18 years at Salernitana (who were previously owned by Lazio president Claudio Lotito) before joining the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2024.

On the other hand, Professor Fabio Rodia, who was appointed as the club’s Head of the Medical Department in 2016, is expected to remain, but only as an external consultant.

In addition to the changes in personnel, Lazio have ended their collaboration with the Villa Mafalda clinic, and they’re currently on the lookout for a new medical facility.
