Lazio are preparing a shake-up of their medical department, with Gustav Isaksen set for groin surgery that would make him the fourth player to have the procedure in under a year.

Il Messaggero reports that the Danish winger has opted for an operation in the coming days, aiming to be at Gennaro Gattuso’s disposal next month. The 24-year-old endured a nightmare pre-season last year due to mononucleosis, so he is keen to resolve the issue quickly.

Three team-mates have had similar problems over the past 12 months. Mattia Zaccagni had surgery last summer, Nicolo Rovella followed in November after alternative therapy failed, and Danilo Cataldi underwent his operation in Barcelona last week.

Lazio recorded more than 50 injuries across the campaign, leaving Maurizio Sarri with a depleted squad on several occasions. The sequence has placed the medical staff under scrutiny and the club has decided to act.

Club doctor Dr Italo Leo is leaving. He previously spent 18 years at Salernitana, formerly owned by Lazio president Claudio Lotito, before joining the Biancocelesti in summer 2024.

Professor Fabio Rodia, appointed head of the medical department in 2016, is expected to stay on only as an external consultant. Lazio have also ended their partnership with the Villa Mafalda clinic and are seeking a new medical facility.
