According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds United’s 3-0 home win over Wolves left them eight points above the relegation zone and triggered a major shift in bookmakers’ predicted final Premier League table.
The weekend had begun with Daniel Farke’s side six points clear of third-bottom Tottenham after Monday night’s 2-1 victory at Manchester United. Saturday’s fixture offered the chance to stretch that gap and they took it.
James Justin and Noah Okafor struck within three first-half minutes to set the platform, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a 95th-minute penalty to seal it.
The result moved Leeds nine points ahead of Spurs before the 5.30pm kick-off in north London, where Tottenham led Brighton 2-1 late on. Former Whites forward Georginio Rutter came off the bench to equalise, earning a 2-2 draw.
Leeds sit 15th with five games left, also seven ahead of fourth-bottom West Ham and six clear of fifth-bottom Nottingham Forest. West Ham and Forest each have a game in hand.
Forest host Burnley on Sunday at 2pm, while West Ham visit Crystal Palace on Monday night. Looking up, Leeds are three points behind Newcastle United, beaten 2-1 at home by Bournemouth, and three behind Palace, who have a game in hand. Their survival prospects look massively boosted.
