Leeds United are edging towards their first summer addition, with Sporting CP midfielder Hidemasa Morita having agreed in principle to join and the move now in its final stages.
According to Leedsunited.news, Thursday’s updates indicated the Japan international is set to sign a two-year contract at Elland Road, with an option for a third season, and arrive as a free agent.
Morita has been Leeds’ priority midfield target since promotion to the Premier League was confirmed, and he is expected to join once negotiations conclude.
The proposed deal would add immediate know-how in midfield while keeping long-term flexibility, with Morita turning 31 this weekend. Leeds appear convinced his Sporting CP experience can translate quickly to Premier League football.
Data from Portugal lists 7.44 progressive passes per 90 minutes, alongside 2.20 tackles and 6.15 ball recoveries per game. He has been described as a complete midfielder, valued for composure and tactical discipline.
He also brings title-winning experience in Portugal, Champions League outings and more than 40 caps for Japan. Leeds are expected to recruit carefully this summer, so experienced, tactically reliable additions are seen as important.
