Leeds United boss Daniel Farke retains the backing of his players despite speculation over his future.
The Leeds United squad remain supportive of boss Daniel Farke despite talk that he is under pressure to keep his job.
The German was named as the Whites’ manager last year, inheriting a talented squad that had been relegated from the Premier League, so the expectation for the previous campaign was to win promotion.
Whilst Leeds fell short on that front, as they lost the play-off final to Southampton, there was sympathy for Farke, as his side had collected 90 points, which would usually guarantee a top two finish.
However, with the Championship looking weaker this season, there is once again a demand for Leeds to go up, but they sit 9th after five games, having only won twice.
Therefore, even at this very early stage, there have been suggestions that Farke could lose his job if things don’t improve quickly.
Yet, in a positive update for the Whites, Football Insider has claimed that the players are behind what the manager wants to do, and there is full confidence from the board as well.
Of course, things can change quickly in football, but the view at Elland Road is seemingly that Farke will be able to get this season going.
There’s always expectation at Leeds because they’re a big club, and the supporters are right to think they should win promotion this season.
Similarly, some of the early season performances are concerning, particularly in the way they struggled to break down a resolute Burnley side last time out.
But, this is not the time to panic, and keeping Farke is the right thing to do.
Firstly, he has proven himself at this level over the years, winning multiple promotions with Norwich, and even though he couldn’t take Leeds up last season, it’s hard to be too critical of someone who saw his side pick up 90 points.
Admittedly, that won’t wash this season, but Leeds are still in a decent position, and they have enough quality to be able to go on a run that will see them climb the table.
It’s also worth remembering that there was a high turnover of players in the summer, with several hugely influential figures departing, so some patience was always going to be needed as the signings adapt to the club.
This update also proves there are no major concerns at the club, because the dynamic would change if there were murmurs that the squad didn’t like Farke’s methods, or if they thought he was making mistakes.
Instead, it seems everyone is on the same page, and it’s ultimately about getting results, so the narrative can change.
All focus for Farke and his side is on Cardiff, and in many ways it’s the perfect fixture for Leeds as they look to bounce back from that disappointing Burnley loss.
The Bluebirds are bottom of the table, they’ve been playing badly, and there is serious talk that Erol Bulut could lose his job, so it’s a game that Leeds will expect to win.
