Leeds United rivals Tottenham hit as Xavi Simons suffers season-ending ACL

Leeds United’s relegation rivals Tottenham have suffered a major setback with Xavi Simons ruled out for the rest of the season.

The club said in a statement that the Netherlands international has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He will undergo surgery in the coming weeks, then start rehabilitation with their medical staff.

The injury came during Saturday's 1-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers, a result that lifted Spurs but kept them in the drop zone after West Ham beat Everton.

Simons, 23, had a goal and an assist in the previous weekend’s 2-2 draw at home to Brighton.

Spurs also lost striker Dominic Solanke to a muscular issue at Molineux, the forward starting but withdrawn five minutes before the break.
