Leeds United ‘to sign’ Tarik Muharemović for £34m, Fabrizio Romano says | OneFootball

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Leeds United are set to sign Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemović, with final details being settled on a deal worth about £34m. Sunderland are likely to miss out on a player they had tracked.

Fabrizio Romano has signalled that the agreement is close with his trademark "here we go" message on social media.

The fee is expected to be split evenly, with Sassuolo receiving roughly half and Juventus due the other 50 per cent under a sell-on clause from his move away from Turin.

The 23-year-old had interest from Sunderland and Bournemouth, but Leeds are understood to have tabled the highest offer and the strongest salary terms. Their need at centre-back intensified after Pascal Struijk’s departure.

Sunderland can offer Europa League football, yet Régis Le Bris already has several senior centre-backs, so the club kept discipline rather than matching a package exceeding £30m.

Leeds are now working to finalise the formalities before the move to Elland Road is completed. Sunderland will switch focus to alternative defensive options within their established recruitment approach.
