Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson missed Sweden’s training session on Tuesday because of illness, days before their World Cup opener against Tunisia.

According to The Sweden Herald, he stayed at the team hotel with mild symptoms while the other 25 players were due to train in Dallas.

Gudmundsson joined Leeds for £10m from Lille last summer and his form earned selection in Graham Potter’s Sweden squad for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

A hamstring injury cut short his Premier League season, yet he was still named in the squad and returned to play 64 minutes in last week’s final pre-World Cup friendly against Greece.

Sweden open their Group F campaign against Tunisia in Monterrey in the early hours of Monday, Swedish time.
