RB Leipzig required two second-half goals to defeat Werder Bremen 2-0 this afternoon. Ole Werner discussed the difficulties faced and praised goal-scorer Assan Ouédraogo.
"The opponent didn't make it easy for us because they played very defensively. We did have chances, but we should have scored in the first half.
"However, we were very well organized defensively and structurally sound. After the break, Bremen briefly had some momentum, but we managed to regain control of the game. “Assan is an exceptional talent, very likeable because he never assumes he will automatically score, and he takes responsibility on the pitch,” said the Leipzig coach.
The 19-year-old also received the adulation of his fellow midfielder Christoph Baumgartner who said the youngster has had some tricky moments to get to this point of his career.
"Things are going very, very well for him [Ouédraogo ] at the moment, but that's no coincidence. He's a great guy who works incredibly hard, believes in himself and is fit.
“He had a difficult time in his first two years, partly due to injuries. So it's all the more wonderful that he's now on an absolute roll, fueled by the national team and goals,” he said.
