The 41-year-old told the media on Friday morning a decision had been taken to suspend Fernandez for the upcoming games against Port Vale and Manchester City.

Fernandez has been in the headlines since he first cast doubt over his future after the 8-2 aggregate defeat against PSG in the Champions League.

The World Cup winner openly spoke about how he’d like to live in Madrid on two occasions over the international break, which didn’t go down well.

His agent Javier Pastore has criticised the decision to sanction Fernandez, and there have been questions about whether he’d remain vice captain.

However, despite taking action Rosenior has confirmed Fernandez will remain as vice captain and part of the leadership group.

“Enzo is still part of the leadership group,” he said as quoted by The Standard.

“I’ve said before, this is a sanction for pretty much one week, where he will miss Man City.

“Then we’ll see after that. For me, I won’t be stripping him of anything because he doesn’t deserve that.”

Rosenior was also asked if he’d still be training with the group and confirmed that would be the case: “He’ll still be here, he’ll still train, he’s still a part of the group, for sure.”
