Lille draw Red Star Belgrade in Europa League play-offs

Lille will face Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League play-offs following Friday’s draw at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, according to Le Progres.

The French side booked their place with a 1-0 win over Freiburg on Thursday.

Sporting director Sylvain Armand said it should be a fine contest, noted they lost there in qualifying and stressed the need to study Red Star carefully. He added that the Belgrade atmosphere is always difficult, though these are good games to play.

Lille have struggled in recent weeks and have slipped off the leading pack in Ligue 1, sitting fifth. Their opponents are second in the Serbian top flight.

Bruno Genesio’s team will host the first leg on 19 February before travelling to the Serbian capital for the return on 26 February.
