In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Liverpool are among the clubs hoping to land Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to compete with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the race to sign the German centre-back next year.

Schlotterbeck’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga

Schlotterbeck has enjoyed a solid campaign at the German club so far as he has been responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The German talent has made eight appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season across all fronts.

The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself when defending inside his half and has done well to make nine tackles, four blocks, eight interceptions and 23 clearances in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.5% in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Signal Iduna Park will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Liverpool could potentially land him on a cut-price deal next year.

Will Schlotterbeck Be A Good Fit For Liverpool?

Schlotterbeck is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and excels at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.91m, the German sensation is a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if the Reds manage to get a deal done for him next year.

We can expect Schlotterbeck to add more bite and steel to Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s defence. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club in the coming years.

At 25, Schlotterbeck has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent fit for Liverpool’s needs in the short term. However, Slot has to give him some time to adjust to life in England before he can get the best out of the German defender at the Merseyside club.
