In a recent report, Calciomercato claimed that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to compete with Newcastle United and Manchester City in the race to land the Italian centre-back in this summer transfer window.

Bastoni’s Impressive Form In Serie A

The 27-year-old had a solid campaign at the Italian club recently as he produced a run of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. Bastoni played in 40 matches for Inter Milan last season, scoring two times and earning six assists across all competitions.

The Italy international is one of the most consistent centre-backs in Serie A. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Reds are hoping to get a deal done for him this summer.

His current contract at San Siro will run out in the summer of 2028, so Liverpool would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Bastoni this off-season.

Should Liverpool Boss Andoni Iraola Go For Bastoni?

Bastoni loves a tackle and can read the danger well to make some crucial interceptions for his side inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer as well from the back.

Standing at 1.90m, the Italian talent can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. Bastoni has got a wealth of experience at the highest level. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Reds manage to get him on board later this year.

Bastoni would add more bite and steel to Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola’s defence. He is more than capable of fighting for a regular starting place at Anfield in the coming seasons.

At 27, Bastoni has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent fit for Iraola’s needs this summer. All in all, the Reds should focus on going for a defender with his skill set and experience in this ongoing transfer period as long as they can get him for a reasonable fee.
