In a recent post on X, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool are inching closer to landing Bayer 04 Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz. It has been stated that the Reds expect the Germany international to join them soon after he expressed his desire to seal a move to Merseyside recently.

Wirtz’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga

Wirtz had an excellent campaign at the German club as he produced a string of productive performances for them in the final third. The German sensation scored 16 goals and picked up 15 assists in 45 matches for Leverkusen last season on all fronts

The 22-year-old was a reliable performer in the final third and did well to average 2.83 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He also kept 47.3% of his attempts on target. Wirtz has also distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 78.3% in the top tier of German football (stats via fbref.com).

His current deal at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Liverpool would have to make a big offer if they want to get a deal over the line for Wirtz this off-season.

What Will Wirtz Bring To Liverpool?

Wirtz can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the opposition half and has got the vision to orchestrate some promising chances for others around him up top. He can strike the ball with venom from long range.

The Germany international deserves credit for scoring and creating a lot of important goals for Leverkusen last season. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.

Wirtz is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger on either flank if required. We can expect him to bring plenty of firepower to Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s attack. He might even help the Reds compete for a lot of major trophies over the next decade.

At 22, Wirtz has the potential to be a future star in England. Hence, it makes sense for the Merseyside club to go all out to get him on board in this summer transfer window. However, Slot might need to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of the German attacker.
