In a recent segment on his Youtube channel, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Liverpool intend to move in for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi next summer. Romano said,
“Marc Guehi will not sign a new contract with Crystal Palace. You can imagine that the season can change, but as of today, the intention of Liverpool is to go for Guehi as a free agent and not to go for him in the January transfer window.
“Liverpool are not happy with what happened on Deadline Day. There will be competition from Spain, Italy, Germany and England as well. For sure, there will be many clubs willing to enter the race and tell him that they will pay a bigger wage or signing fee than Liverpool.
“Liverpool will be there, but the intention is to go for Guehi in 2026 as a free agent.”
Guehi has enjoyed a rich vein of form for the Eagles this season as he has already put in a run of influential displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The English talent did well to help the London club win the Community Shield recently. He has made six appearances for Crystal Palace thus far, scoring one goal in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a rock at the back and deserves credit for making five tackles, two interceptions and 13 clearances for the Eagles in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back after completing 83.9% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

Guehi is a tough-tackling defender who can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball.
The English defensive ace has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and is a great leader on the pitch. His current contract at Selhurst Park will run out next summer.
Hence, it seems like a good decision for Liverpool to wait until the end of this campaign to sign him on a free transfer. The Reds have got Ibrahima Konate on an expiring contract as well. Thus, Guehi would serve as an ideal replacement for the French centre-back at the Merseyside club.
At 25, Guehi’s best years are ahead of him, which makes him a worthy option for Liverpool to pursue next year.
