Liverpool ‘pushing to sign’ Lutsharel Geertruida on loan | OneFootball

The Athletic reports that Liverpool are pushing to sign RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida on loan for the remainder of the season.

Sky Germany claims Leipzig are expected to approve a six-month switch, though Liverpool will also need an agreement with Sunderland to take over the existing loan.

The Dutchman is currently at Sunderland, a fellow Premier League side, and Liverpool have been seeking cover amid limited options in defence.

The 25-year-old has made 17 appearances for Sunderland since arriving on loan in the summer, but has not secured a regular starting role.

He struggled during his sole season at Leipzig, in a campaign that saw the club record their worst Bundesliga finish.

Geertruida offers flexibility, able to play right-back, centre-back and defensive midfield. At Leipzig he featured mainly at centre-back and right-back, and also played two games at left-back.
