Liverpool have spent much of this season rebuilding foundations, not only on the pitch but behind the scenes, and the situation around Ibrahima Konate’s contract has become a central part of that work. As Rousing the Kop report, there is renewed optimism at Anfield that the centre back will agree a fresh deal. Negotiations have been active for several months and the latest round of talks, held during the November international break, were described as productive.

The French defender, who has reached the final year of the five year contract signed in 2021, remains a high priority for the club. One source close to the talks said, “Liverpool are happy with the meetings that took place and remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached.” Konate captained France during the break, a reminder of both his quality and his stature, and those within the club feel that keeping him long term is essential to the next phase of their evolution.

Rousing the Kop reveal that the player’s representatives assured Liverpool that he has not agreed terms with any other club. Interest is strong, particularly from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but Liverpool appear encouraged by the clarity offered. A figure involved in the discussions added, “He is prioritising Liverpool, that much has been made clear.”
Transfer specialist Graeme Bailey explained that Liverpool are preparing a significant push in the next six weeks. “Liverpool remain hopeful that Konate will sign a new deal,” he said, adding that the club want progress secured before January opens the door to pre contract conversations.
Beyond Konate, Liverpool are looking to secure several other core players. Dominik Szoboszlai has been offered improved terms and work is ongoing to extend Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister. Curtis Jones is also expected to finalise his new deal soon. Each move reflects Liverpool’s commitment to stability and long term planning.
This update feels like one of the most important off pitch developments of the season. Konate has always represented the future of the defence, a player capable of anchoring the back line for years if fitness and form align. The idea of losing him on a free would be unthinkable to many fans, especially given how much potential remains unlocked.
Supporters will take comfort from the clear message that he has not agreed anything with Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. That reassurance lands well at a time when European giants tend to circle any Liverpool player approaching a contract crossroads. The fact that Konate’s camp are said to be prioritising Liverpool gives fans belief that the defender views Anfield as the place to play his best football.
There will still be nerves, particularly with the six week window highlighted by Graeme Bailey. Fans know too well how quickly a story can shift once January arrives. Many will argue that Liverpool must match ambition with action by finalising terms swiftly, especially after last season’s defensive inconsistencies. A long term partnership built around Konate could steady the structure for years.
Overall, there is a quiet hopefulness among supporters, mixed with the urgency of keeping a defender who embodies Liverpool’s physical and technical profile. Retaining him would be a significant message about the club’s direction under its new era.
