Liverpool ruled out of transfer race for Richard Hughes favourite

Liverpool will need to make a lot of signings this summer if they want to get back to their best.

Even though the Reds' team is mainly based around the one that won the Premier League last term, it's clear that some of Arne Slot's men are now past their best.

Mohamed Salah is one of them and, since he only had a year left on his current deal, Liverpool have agreed to allow him to exit for nothing this summer.

Others such as Alexis Mac Allister have also been slammed for their performances but, in reality, almost every area of Slot's first-team squad needs a new player or two added to it.

So, the fact that yet another one of the Reds' targets could now be off the cards is a tad concerning.

Marcos Senesi is 99.99 per cent unlikely to join Liverpool this summer

Even though reports emerged that Liverpool were leading the way to sign Marcos Senesi this summer, it seems like those claims have now been squashed.

The Argentinian's contract is due to expire at the end of June which means that the Bournemouth star will be available for nothing.

This fee is exactly why Liverpool were interested in him with other Premier League clubs also interested in acquiring his services.

And, even though it felt like the Anfield outfit were the ones leading the way for his transfer, a new update from Ben Jacobs has shut those talks down completely.

"We’ve seen some reports that Liverpool are going to enter the race [for Senesi]," he said on The United Stand Podcast.

"They certainly have discussed, but there’s no formal contact between Liverpool and Senesi yet. So, it can’t be 100% ruled out, but 99.9% at the moment.

"They’re not moving like other clubs are doing. And I think it would only change if Ibrahima Konate doesn’t extend."

Liverpool need to get their hands on a new centre-back before it's too late

Even though Liverpool will have five centre-backs among their ranks in the summer, it's unclear whether things are going to stay that way.

Ibrahima Konate's contract still hasn't been extended and almost every season AC Milan reignite their interest in Joe Gomez.

And, even though both of these players still have a lot to give Liverpool, if the club don't manage to get their hands on a new centre-back or two before they move one or both of them on, they could find themselves in a bit of a pickle.

Over the last few weeks several defenders have been linked with an Anfield switch but, if Slot and Richard Hughes don't sign a new central defender soon, Liverpool could be in an even worse position than they currently find themselves in.

Many other areas of the Reds' squad also need upgrading and, seeing as though they're bound to have a limited budget, a priority list needs to be made so they don't overspend and leave themselves short.

Senesi would've been an ideal transfer for Liverpool, especially since Hughes and Slot have both had past experiences with him but, unfortunately, that clearly isn't going to be the case.
