Following a disappointing season, Liverpool will be looking to make their mark in the transfer market this summer.

The Reds secured Champions League qualification on the final day of the season, but the campaign on a whole was one of the most disappointing in recent memory.

With both the performances and the results of the team failing to meet expectations changes are needed this summer, but some sales are expected to fund spending.

Several players have found themselves on the periphery of Arne Slot’s squad, including one Jurgen Klopp favourite who could move to a Premier League rival this summer.

Harvey Elliott set for Liverpool departure

Despite becoming a key player at Anfield in Klopp’s final season, Harvey Elliott has failed to find a place in Arne Slot’s plans and has spent most of the season on loan at Aston Villa.

When that deal was announced, the inclusion of an obligation to buy clause if Elliott made 10 Premier League appearances made a permanent transfer seem a formality, but the Englishman is now returning to Liverpool.

Elliott played just 283 minutes for Villa but that hasn’t stopped fellow Premier League side Leeds United from showing an interest in the 23-year-old.

According to a report from Football Insider, Elliott is keen on a move to Elland Road as he looks to leave Liverpool in search of game time this summer.

A fee of around £25 million is quoted, with the England U21 international having only 12 months remaining on his current deal.

The priority for Elliott will be getting his career back on track by playing regular first-team football, having only played 1,105 minutes in the last two seasons combined.

Elliott still has a lot to offer, and could be a great option for Liverpool in the wake of Mo Salah’s departure, but the young star has no future at Anfield under the current regime.

Picking up a versatile 23-year-old with so much experience would be a great move to Leeds, and Elliott’s departure could well be the first transfer in a busy summer for the Reds.
