London City Lionesses earned a big victory over an improved Tottenham Hotspur side to show that they mean business in the Women's Super League after a slow start.

Jocelyn Prêcheur has welcomed several star signings over the summer as London City flexed their financial muscles. However, it has taken some time for that to translate to points.

Of course, London City weren't helped by their 'welcome to the WSL' fixture list which saw them face Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City in their first month.

Those three games saw London City suffer three defeats, while shipping 13 goals to more established sides.

While the Lionesses showed their strength against 'weaker' teams with one-goal wins over Everton, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and West Ham United (four wins from four in the league), November's first two fixtures show that Michele Kang's club are starting to look stronger.

Although serial winners Chelsea managed a 2-0 win away to London City Lionesses at the start of the month, it was hard-fought and only a Sam Kerr goal in stoppage time stopped any hope of a draw for Prêcheur's team.

But London City's win over Tottenham was a very impressive display. Martin Ho has done a superb job to improve Spurs, who look like a totally different side under his stewardship. A double from Freya Godfrey as well as another goal from Nikita Parris helped their side to a 4-2 victory.

That result means that in the last five games, London City Lionesses have picked up 12 points, more than Arsenal and Man Utd with only Chelsea and Man City doing better. Those two sides are also the only clubs to have a better home record than London City (three wins, one defeat).

Veteran Kosovare Asllani is proving instrumental and is top in the league for key passes (23) with only Mariona Caldentey having more shot-creating actions (39) than the Swede with 37.

Spanish international Jana Fernández has also been an astute signing with the former Barcelona defender top of the charts for dribblers tackled (15), while also ranking eighth in the division for interceptions (13), and showing her worth by putting in four crosses into the penalty area (the sixth highest in the league).

We're still three games away from the halfway point in the WSL but should London City continue their improvements they could well be ready for a charge in search of European football come the new year.
