Lucas Veríssimo, a senior figure at Santos, said the squad stayed insulated from a recent wage delay but accepted it should not happen.

Santos made the payments hours before a 2-0 win over Coritiba in the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil, a result that sealed progress to the last 16. According to Globo.com, this was the first salary delay of the year, with earlier issues limited to image rights.

He said the hold-up did not interfere with daily work and that players asked for normality because the situation reflects badly from the outside.

Veríssimo added that such things do occur and the group are used to them, yet said they should not, and that they have spoken at length with the board to resolve it.

With the salaries settled, the board still must clear two months of overdue image rights.

Last month, squad leaders met directors in Ecuador before facing Deportivo Cuenca to understand the situation, and one month of image rights was paid then.

Santos remain in financial difficulty, with debt around R$ one billion.
