Flamengo will look for forwards in the mid-year window, and long-standing target Luiz Henrique, now at Zenit, has stayed tight-lipped on a potential move while with Brazil. The 2024 Rei da América remains on the Rio club’s radar.
“I cannot answer that. I cannot speak. Botafogo or Fluminense? I cannot say. I want to perform my best at my club so I can later decide with my family,” he told Goat.
He came close to joining Flamengo in 2024, but delays in talks with then club Real Betis opened the door for Botafogo owner John Textor to hijack the deal.
Luiz Henrique shone at Botafogo, becoming an idol and playing a key role in their Brasileirão and Libertadores triumphs, before moving to Zenit for €35 million, about R$ 200-215 million at the time.
Zenit now want around €40 million, R$ 241 million. The 25-year-old is under contract until December 2029, and the Russians are not ruling out a sale as they seek to rejuvenate the squad.
He is currently with the national team and is due to face Croatia on Tuesday 31, Brazil’s final friendly before the World Cup call-up. Kick-off is 21:00 Brasília time.
