Kaizer Chiefs striker Luke Baartman has reacted to making his long-awaited Amakhosi debut against TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership last Sunday.
The 19-year-old signed on a free transfer from Cape Town Spurs, but had to overcome a legal battle against the Urban Warriors, who wanted compensation despite relegation to the amateur league.
Baartman was eventually cleared to play for the Soweto giants by the PSL DRC and came on as an 80th minute substitute against The Rockets in the club's last outing of 2025.
Reflecting on the moment, ‘Boere’, as the player is fondly known, says donning the famous Black and Gold jersey was a proud moment after relentless training.
“It felt good to be back on the field and it was a proud moment for me to wear the Chiefs jersey. After training hard for the past few months, it was rewarding to finally play for this great institution,” Baartman told kaizerchiefs.com.
"Though it wasn't easy, since I haven't played for a while, I feel I contributed to the attack as we tried to unlock Galaxy's defense.
Baartman will be eager to add to his appearance tally when Chiefs host Golden Arrows on 20 January 2026, before travelling to Zambia to face ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup few days later.
