HNB are reporting that both Lyon and Wolfsburg are showing interest in signing Sint Truiden midfielder Rihito Yamamoto. The 24-year-old from Japan has had a fantastic season for the Canaries, who are currently in with a chance of a European ticket at the end of the season. Other clubs are also said to be interested, although according to the report, Yamamoto would prefer a move to the Bundesliga, which has always been a popular destination for Japanese players who move to Europe.

After starting his career with Tokyo Verdy, Yamamoto left to join Gamba Osaka in 2022. After just 17 appearances for the side he left for Europe, joining Sint Truiden on loan in the summer of 2023. He made 35 appearances for the Canaries and impressed enough for them to make the move permanent in 2024. Last season he only played 23 games with two assists, but this current campaign has been a real European breakout for the midfielder. In 30 games he has scored five goals and provided five assists alongside a number of eye catching performances.

Interest from Lyon and Wolfsburg has led many to predict that Sint Truiden will be able to recoup a decent fee for the Japanese midfielder if they decide to sell him in the summer. The club are also keen to keep his compatriot Ryotaro Ito, who is of interest to another German side in Hamburg.
