Liverpool beat Wolverhampton 3-1 to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals, but Liverpool’s No 10 Alexis Mac Allister went off late after a heavy foul by Hwang Hee-Chan.
The 27-year-old had started and produced a solid display against the Premier League’s bottom side, but was substituted with fewer than 10 minutes left. Trey Nyoni came on in his place. According to SuperDepor.com, the incident has raised immediate concern.
The injury has unsettled Liverpool and Argentina’s coaching staff under Lionel Scaloni. There are roughly three weeks until the Finalissima against Spain, if it goes ahead, because the conflict in the Middle East could yet lead to its suspension.
There are also fewer than 100 days until the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Mac Allister is not the only worry for that fixture. Paulo Dybala and Giovanni Lo Celso are almost certainly out, and Lautaro Martínez is recovering from a strain in his left soleus and, if he makes it, would do so only just.
