At just 22 years old, Aleksandar Pavlović has quickly developed into one of Europe’s most exciting midfielders. According to CaughtOffside, Manchester City view the Bayern Munich starlet as a potential long-term replacement for Rodri.
Rodri has been pivotal to Pep Guardiola’s side, described as “the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s system in recent years, anchoring the midfield.” Yet whispers around the Etihad suggest the Spaniard could be tempted by a move away in the coming years, prompting City to prepare for life without him.

has been identified as the ideal candidate to step into that crucial role.” Already featuring six times for Bayern this season and scoring once, the German midfielder has impressed with maturity well beyond his years. Reports claim City are weighing up a January approach, with a bid of €45-50 million being considered.
Guardiola is understood to be a major admirer. “Pavlović’s ability to dictate tempo, his passing range, and his physicality have drawn comparisons to established midfield anchors across Europe.” It is a skillset City believe could blend seamlessly into their possession-based blueprint.
Manchester City will not have it all their way. Juventus are reportedly monitoring Pavlović as part of their Serie A rebuild. Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping watch, intent on adding balance to a squad that has often lacked defensive structure. “Paris Saint-Germain, too, are keeping tabs, with the French giants keen to balance their squad by adding a player who combines technical precision with defensive solidity.”
Manchester United have also previously been linked, underlining Pavlović’s rising reputation.
“Pavlović’s growing reputation has made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe, and Man City’s interest shows just how highly he is valued.” Should City secure him, they would not only reinforce their midfield but also send a statement about their intent to dominate European football for years to come.
Manchester City fans will be excited by this link, but also slightly nervous. Rodri’s potential departure would be seismic given his influence on the side. One supporter might say, “Losing Rodri would be a hammer blow, but Pavlović looks like the kind of player who could grow into that role.”
Others may be more sceptical. Paying €50 million for a player with fewer than 10 senior appearances for Bayern carries risk. “He is clearly talented, but proven at the highest level? That remains to be seen,” is a sentiment some City fans could share.
There is also the competition factor. With PSG and Juventus circling, as well as historic links to Manchester United, City cannot assume Pavlović will be theirs for the taking. Supporters know how quickly these sagas can turn.
Still, the prospect of Guardiola moulding another young talent into a world-class operator is tantalising. Pavlović has the tools, the intelligence, and the physicality to step into Rodri’s shoes. The question is whether Bayern will part with him, and if City are willing to outbid Europe’s elite. For many fans, the excitement is tempered with expectation that this pursuit could drag well into the summer window.
