Premier League side looking to avoid a giant-killing in Yorkshire
Manchester City take on Huddersfield Town in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to get back to winning ways after they were pegged back late on by Arsenal at the weekend.
The Gunners snatched a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday thanks to Gabriel Martinelli’s injury-time equaliser, which cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener.
The Norwegian suffered a slight twinge in his back during the game, and should sit this fixture out ahead of the weekend’s encounter with Burnley.
In north London, Guardiola made no changes to the side that beat Manchester United 3-0 two weeks previously, with Nico O’Reilly and Abdukodir Khusanov at full-back, with Josko Gvardiol partnering Ruben Dias in the heart of defence.
In midfield, Rodri anchored the engine room, with Phil Foden and Tijjani Reijnders the free eights ahead of him, while Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku kept the width.
In this game, however, Guardiola hinted at heavy rotation against their League One opponents, and that could see an opportunity for some of the fringe players to impress.
James Trafford, who re-joined the club from Burnley in the summer for a fee of around £40million, could get the nod between the sticks, in place of fellow new recruit Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has played against Arsenal and United since his move from Paris Saint-Germain.
John Stones could also make a start after coming off the bench at the Emirates last weekend, while Matheus Nunes was introduced at right-back after Khusanov took a whack.
On the treatment table remain Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Mateo Kovacic, and Omar Marmoush.
Predicted Man City XI (4-1-4-1): Trafford; Nunes, Stones, Ake, Mfuni; Nico, Lewis; Silva, Mukasa, Savinho; Bobb
Injured: Ait-Nouri, Cherki, Kovacic, Marmoush
Doubt: Haaland
