Manchester United’s faith in Ruben Amorim remains unshaken despite the club’s worst start to a season since 1992/93 and a chastening 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at a rain-soaked Etihad Stadium.
Reports from the Manchester Evening News state that Amorim retains the full backing of the club’s hierarchy despite increasing pressure. One unnamed source close to the Portuguese coach admitted it was “incredible” that his position is not under threat given the run of results, but insisted there were “no current plans” to seek another managerial change.

Sky Sports also confirmed on Monday that Amorim’s job is safe for now, with decision-makers keen to give him time to turn things around.
United have taken just four points from their opening five matches across all competitions, with their latest defeat continuing a dire sequence of results. The derby loss featured a brace from Erling Haaland and an early goal from Phil Foden on an emotional day for Manchester following the passing of boxing legend Ricky Hatton.

Former players were scathing once again. Roy Keane and Gary Neville criticised the lack of progress, while Wayne Rooney claimed that “things had gotten worse under the current coaching regime.”
United’s Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two Grimsby last month added to the sense of crisis, with Amorim now having won just eight of his first 31 Premier League matches in charge.
Despite the scrutiny, Amorim has doubled down on his methods, insisting United “will have to sack him before he considers changing his philosophy and system.” This stance underlines his belief that the current project needs time, though it risks alienating supporters desperate for a quick turnaround.

The club’s summer spend of over £200 million was expected to ignite improvement, but so far it has only amplified the pressure as results fail to materialise.
Things hardly get easier. Chelsea visit Old Trafford on Saturday, followed by a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool next month. Fans will be hoping the lack of European football this season, a consequence of last year’s 15th-place finish and Europa League final loss to Tottenham, will allow Amorim valuable time on the training pitch to steady the ship.
