Manchester United fans may finally have heard the news they have been waiting decades for.
News headlines were dominated in 2023 by the ongoing race to buy Man United between Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.
The British billionaire finally won out and was announced as a minority owner in December 2023.
The new part owners have certainly made sweeping changes to the playing and coaching staff.
There has also been a major change in the background structure of the football operations with the likes of Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox hired and more recently, Stephen Torpey as academy director and Ameesh Manek as the director of football operations.
Nonetheless, Ineos have hardly been unanimously popular amongst fans. They have taken a series of unpopular decisions such as massive staff cuts and the hiking up of matchday ticket prices.
Therefore, some fans have not given up hope that the club could still be bought by another party that perhaps even oust the Glazers from power.
The Daily Star have reported that, “the Glazers are open to offers exceeding £5 billion for their stake in Manchester United.”
The paper also states that the “price is more than double the club’s current stock market value. Rumours are rife that Saudi billionaire Turki Al-Sheikh is eyeing a takeover bid for the Red Devils.”
Despite the current valuation of the club sitting around £2 billion, it is thought that the Glazers would not entertain talks until that figure reached at least £5.2 billion.
It is stated that, “one option for the Glazers could be to sell a portion of their 48.9% stake in United in exchange for substantial investment from Saudi sources to help fund the new stadium.”
The news comes off the back of quotes from Sir Jim Ratcliffe that defended the role of the Glazers at the club and he confirmed that they are still very much involved in board discussions.
