Manchester City are close to finalising a new long-term contract with winger Savinho that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
The 21-year-old is currently tied to City until 2029, but negotiations have advanced quickly in recent weeks and the agreement is now at the final stages.
The development comes only a few months after Tottenham Hotspur made a strong push to sign the Brazilian international. Spurs explored a package worth around €50m in August, though City quickly rejected the advances and made clear they had no plans to sell the player.
Savinho was open to the idea of a move during the summer, with Pep Guardiola having previously allowed unsettled players to leave. However, City’s stance remained firm and the situation eventually closed with the winger staying in Manchester.
After missing the start of the season through injury, Savinho has returned to action and featured in four games. He registered his first goal of the campaign on Wednesday in a 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Huddersfield Town.
The forward played a key role for City last season, making 48 appearances across all competitions. He contributed three goals and 13 assists as Guardiola’s side finished third in the Premier League.
Signed from French club Troyes in a €40m deal, Savinho arrived in Manchester in 2023 after a standout loan spell at Girona. During that campaign in La Liga, he produced 11 goals and 10 assists to help Girona secure a top-four finish and a first ever Champions League qualification.
The move to Troyes, another club under the City Football Group umbrella, came in 2022 after the winger had broken through at Atletico Mineiro in Brazil. He made his senior debut for the Belo Horizonte club as a 16-year-old in 2020 and also spent a year on loan at PSV Eindhoven before heading to Spain.
Savinho has since become a full Brazil international, earning 13 caps and scoring once. His progress has convinced City to secure him for the long term as they continue to build for the future.
