One of the German Bundesliga’s most highly-rated names could be at the centre of an intense transfer battle between some of Europe’s biggest clubs, it has been reported.
Manchester City’s recruitment operation continues to keep close tabs on Europe’s emerging full-back talents as part of their ongoing squad renewal under Pep Guardiola, and despite the summer arrival of Rayan Aït-Nouri from Wolves, attention within the Etihad Stadium hierarchy appears to have turned once again toward Germany.
City officials have long used their extensive European scouting network to identify high-ceiling profiles capable of fitting seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s demanding positional system, and that network was central to the club’s captures of talents such as Josko Gvardiol and Manuel Akanji from the Bundesliga in recent years.
And now, it seems as though the current structure led by newly-appointed sporting director Hugo Viana – off the back of his first summer market in the position at the club – continues to monitor several rising German-based names.
One player catching the eye has been Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown, whose explosive rise has prompted admiration, with a balance of defensive maturity and attacking output making him one of the most complete young left-backs in German football earning him a first senior call-up to Germany earlier this month, debuting against Luxembourg.
Now according to the information of German newspaper Bild – as translated and relayed by Sport Witness – all of Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid are in the picture to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt left-back.
The 22-year-old is said to have a high level of football intelligence and tremendous pace that is ‘rarely seen’ in a left-back in the top division, making him an attractive proposition for the aforementioned super clubs, whilst the player has also improved his defensive attributes.
However, in the event of any future transfer, the report claims that Nathaniel Brown is expected to help Eintracht Frankfurt raise up to €60 million, with his current contract running until 2030 and his immediate focus firmly on his Bundesliga employers.
Brown has featured in 41 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt since joining the club last January, registering four goals and nine assists across all competitions – including one goal and two assists in just eight matches so far this campaign.
His consistent end product, combined with composure under pressure, has made him a pivotal figure in Frankfurt’s fast, counter-attacking setup. For Manchester City, any approach for Brown would likely be a longer-term move rather than an immediate necessity.
The Premier League giants already boast strong depth at left-back, with Rayan Aït-Nouri expected to establish himself as first choice in the near future, while both Nico O’Reilly – recently signing a new deal until 2030 – and Josko Gvardiol providing highly-rated alternative options for Pep Guardiola.
That said, Manchester City’s recruitment model often looks several windows ahead, particularly when identifying players who could serve both club and City Football Group interests.
Should Brown continue his rapid ascent, the Etihad Stadium side could look to position themselves early in the race, especially with Arsenal and Real Madrid already showing concrete interest.
