After a dramatic injury time win against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, Manchester City must now turn their full attentions towards Marco Silva’s Fulham.
Pep Guardiola’s side walked away as 1-2 winners from Anfield, keeping the gap between themselves and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table to just six points.
For much of the afternoon, the two heavyweights cancelled each other out, with the deadlock broken in the 74th minute via Dominik Szoboszlai’s long-range free-kick in a clear contender for goal of the season.
Manchester City appeared on the brink of defeat as Liverpool seized control, but the very best find a way and in the 83rd minute, Erling Haaland flicked the ball into the path of Bernardo Silva, who calmly swept home the equaliser to silence Anfield and swing momentum.
And two minutes into stoppage time, Matheus Nunes burst into the penalty area and was brought down by Alisson, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. Haaland stepped up and cooly converted, sealing City’s second league win at Anfield since 2003.
But the chaos didn’t end there as Alisson ventured forward for a last-gasp corner, and when cleared, Rayan Cherki attempted an audacious effort from the halfway line that trickled into the net, only for celebrations to be cut short.
VAR ruled the goal out, instead penalising Szoboszlai for denying Haaland a clear goalscoring opportunity as the striker rushed down on goal, resulting in a straight red card for the Hungarian midfielder.
With what may be this season’s most dramatic game behind them, Manchester City host 10th placed Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, with the London side having faltered in form through three losses from their last five league matches – leaving them three points ahead of 14th.
Meanwhile, leaders Arsenal face a daunting run of fixtures, with back-to-back London derbies against Tottenham and Chelsea, and the opportunity clear for Guardiola’s side: build momentum, stack points, and close the gap at the summit.

The Blues are unbeaten against Fulham since April 2009 when they lost 3-1 and having gone nearly 16 years strong, anything other than a win here would come as a huge shock along with a massive blow to Manchester City’s title chances.
Last time out against the Cottagers, City walked away victorious in a 4-5 thriller in December. The Blues went into half-time 1-3 up and were 1-5 up by the 54th minute, until Fulham’s goal frenzy led to many calling into question City’s second half performance drop-off – a problem that has continued up until now.
Manchester City’s goals that evening came courtesy of Erling Haaland, Tijjani Reijnders, Phil Foden, and a Sander Berge own-goal.

Haaland has 10 goal involvements (7 goals, 3 assists) in only seven Premier League appearances against the Cottagers.
Fulham has not earned a single point against Manchester City since a 2-2 draw in September 2011.
