Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players could be bracing themselves for a night of disruption as they take on Al Hilal in the last-16 of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Premier League giants are hoping to build upon their exemplary group stage in the United States by aiming for the Final of the Club World Cup, having established themselves as the only team to win all three of their group contests.
An opening matchday victory over Morocco’s Wydad AC was followed up by a dismantling of Al Ain, before a vital and statement win over Juventus in Orlando, Florida secured top spot and a more favourable draw in the knockout stages.
Ensuring that Manchester City will avoid all of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Borussia Dortmund, Pep Guardiola and his players will take on the Saudi Pro League’s Al Hilal in the last-16 of the tournament.
But as Manchester City return to the Camping World Stadium following their outing on matchday three of the group stage at the arena against Juventus, there have been warnings issued over the prospect of disruption on Monday night.
As highlighted by a recent report from MailSport, the latest weather predictions appear to suggest that Manchester City’s Club Wold Cup meeting with Al Hilal in Orlando could be interrupted by thunderstorms.
It was only last summer that Pep Guardiola and his players saw a pre-season friendly against Barcelona at the same stadium delayed by around 80 minutes due to storms, and incidents at this summer’s tournament have proven a susceptibility to the fact this time around.
Chelsea’s eventual 4-1 victory over Benfica in Charlotte, North Carolina became the latest contest at the Club World Cup to be disrupted by inclement weather, with the affair postponed by almost two hours over the weekend.
Manchester City could yet meet with their Premier League rivals in the United States this summer should they reach the semi-final stage of the competition, with Enzo Maresca’s side or Palmeiras due to be a final-four opponent.
Before then, Pep Guardiola and his players would first have to dismiss of Al Hilal, before facing either Inter or Fluminense in a quarter-final tie on Friday night back at the Camping World Stadium, Orlando.
