So far at the FIFA Club World Cup, there has been a host of positives to take from the tournament for Manchester City. The improvement of Jeremy Doku and Savinho has been a major one for Pep Guardiola’s side. Both players have shown signs of improving their end product in the final third.

Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 fixture against Al Hilal, Pep Guardiola has spoken of what Savinho needs to do to take the next step as a player. It’s hard to argue with Pep Guardiola’s assessment, as if Savinho improves his end product, Manchester City will have a world class winger on their hands.

Pep Guardiola has explained how Savinho can take the next step as a player.

Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Al Hilal, Pep Guardiola explained how Savinho can improve as a player. The Manchester City manager explained that Savinho is a young player with plenty of talent and potential. Speaking on Savinho, Guardiola told the media: “Savinho made an incredible season at Girona. He was their best player and brought that team to play in the Champions League.”

“Last season he started well and then played a little less because of my reasons but he is a player with incredible potential.”

“We cannot forget he is so young. He needs to make more decisive actions in the final third.”

“The moment he makes this step and says he wants to be the player that is decisive, he will be an extraordinary player.”

Based on what Savinho has already shown at Manchester City, if he fulfils his potential, he could be a special player.

During his debut season with Manchester City, Savinho showed flashes of his quality as a player. In 45 appearances in all competitions (excluding the Club World Cup), he made 45 appearances, scoring 2 goals and added 12 assists. Those aren’t exceptional numbers but they show both a glimpse of what he is capable of and what he needs to improve.

Creatively, Savinho is a weapon on both wings. He can provide the service that his teammates need to prosper with his delivery, and his dribbling ability is a major weapon in his game and for Pep Guardiola’s squad. Savinho has also shown that he is adept tactically in terms of his positioning and defensive pressing. Although he can improve that aspect of his game. But his finishing remains a work in progress. Too often that let him down during his debut season at Manchester City.

But given that Savinho is only 21 years of age there is plenty of time for him to develop as a player. The hope is that he can show further signs of improvement during the 25/26 season. But if he takes the jump that Pep Guardiola spoke of quicker than expected then Manchester City will have a world class winger on their hands. Whether or not Savinho can take that leap next season is well worth watching our for as he has the talent to become a special player for Pep Guardiola’s side.
